Kurt Underwood serves as Managing Director for Protiviti’s Global IT Effectiveness & Control practice, which includes capabilities in IT Governance, IT Security & Privacy, IT Process Improvement, Enterprise Applications Controls, Data Analytics and Business Continuity Management. Mr. Underwood has successfully served a variety of industries, mostly in Financial & Capital Markets, Communications, Software, Electronics, Entertainment & Media to improve business performance through risk management, operational effectiveness and governance. He has worked his entire career helping management teams and board directors protect and enhance the value of their businesses.

Mr. Underwood has extensive experience in business planning, mergers, acquisitions, spin-outs, restructurings, due diligence for debt and equity, investor presentations, business/technology alignment, program management and systems implementations. As a former Big 5 partner and chief executive officer of a publicly-traded technology company, Kurt’s portfolio of executive relationships is extensive. In 1997, he joined KPMG as a direct entry Partner to help globalize KPMG’s ICE (Information, Communications and Entertainment) consulting business unit and was promoted to SVP within KPMG’s eBusiness unit. In 2000, he founded of a technology services and software development company, Velagio, where he secured Silicon Valley venture capital financing, Fortune 500 accounts, grew the company into profitability as CEO, and subsequently through mergers to become a 275 employee publicly-traded professional services and technology firm as the public CEO and President.

Mr. Underwood has served as a Board Director for several start-up and mature technology companies, both public and private. His board-level contributions have included developing and executing effective business strategies, technology productization for business results, developing high volume sales channels, venture capital fundraising through mergers and acquisitions. Kurt actively serves Director roles for two non-profit Boards of competitive sports organizations, as well as on the Board of Directors for Fulcrum Technologies, a high-growth and profitable software company specializing in network asset tracking and infrastructure lifecycle management software applications. www.fulcrum.net
